How to add it to your site
- WordPress: in the block editor, add a Custom HTML block and paste the code. For a sidebar, use Appearance → Widgets → Custom HTML.
- Blogger: go to Layout → Add a Gadget → HTML/JavaScript and paste the code.
- Wix: choose Add → Embed Code → Embed HTML, paste the code and resize the box to about 320 × 200.
- Squarespace: add a Code block to any page and paste the code.
- Plain HTML: paste the code wherever you want the countdown to appear. It works on any page that allows iframes.
The widget is about 4 KB, loads lazily and runs entirely in the visitor's browser, so it won't slow your page down. It shows the same numbers as the main countdown: whole days until 25 December, plus hours, minutes and seconds until midnight.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Christmas countdown widget free?
Yes. The widget is completely free for personal and commercial websites. There is no sign-up and no limit on page views.
Does the widget use cookies or show ads?
No. The widget sets no cookies, collects no personal data and shows no advertising, so it does not affect your site's cookie banner.
Do I need to update the widget every year?
No. After Boxing Day the widget automatically starts counting down to the next Christmas, so you can leave it on your site all year.
Which time zone does the countdown use?
Each visitor sees the countdown in their own local time, so it reaches zero at midnight on 25 December wherever they are.
